Beef and Bell Pepper Stir-Fry



For the Marinade:

  • 1 lb beef (flank steak or sirloin), thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

For the Stir-Fry:

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, cut into chunks
  • 1 green bell pepper, cut into chunks
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, minced

For the Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water


  • Sesame seeds
  • Chopped green onions


  1. Marinate the Beef:
    • In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Add the thinly sliced beef and mix well to coat. Let it marinate for at least 20 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, cornstarch slurry, rice vinegar, brown sugar, and beef broth or water. Set aside.
  3. Cook the Beef:
    • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Stir-Fry the Vegetables:
    • In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the sliced onions, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, minced garlic, and minced ginger. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  5. Combine and Cook:
    • Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Pour the prepared sauce over the beef and vegetables. Stir well to combine and cook until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and vegetables evenly.
  6. Serve:
    • Transfer the stir-fry to a serving dish. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
  7. Enjoy:
    • Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
