Soft and Fluffy Bread Rolls

 

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Yeast Mixture:
    • In a small bowl, dissolve the granulated sugar in the warm water. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Mix the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, and eggs.
    • Add the yeast mixture and the milk mixture to the flour. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough:
    • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Alternatively, you can use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment to knead the dough.
  4. First Rise:
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Rolls:
    • Punch down the risen dough to release the air. Turn it onto a floured surface and divide it into 12-16 equal pieces.
    • Shape each piece into a ball or roll shape and place them in a greased baking pan, leaving some space between each roll for them to expand.
  6. Second Rise:
    • Cover the shaped rolls with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until they have doubled in size.
  7. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Egg Wash:
    • In a small bowl, beat one egg and brush it gently over the tops of the rolls. This will give them a beautiful golden color when baked.
  9. Bake the Rolls:
    • Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.
  10. Cool and Serve:
  • Remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your soft and fluffy bread rolls warm.
