Recipe: Bread Pudding Casserole with Vanilla Sauce

My grandmother passed this recipe down to me and we continue to make it regularly. It’s our fourth time this month


4 cups cubed bread of the day

2 cups milk

2 large eggs


1/2 cup granulated sugar

3 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground Cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 cup melted butter


1/3 cup raisins (optional)

For the vanilla sauce:

1/2 cup cream

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup butter


1/2 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract


Preheat oven to 175°C and grease a baking dish.
In a large bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
Soak the bread cubes in this mixture for 10 minutes.
If using, add the raisins.Drizzle the mixture with melted butter and stir gently.

Pour the mixture into the baking dish and bake for 45-55 minutes until golden brown.
For the vanilla sauce, heat the cream, sugar, butter and piloncillo over medium heat and stir until the sauce thickens. Add vanilla extract.
