Caramel Tiramisu Layered Dessert




For the Base:

  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs or crushed digestive biscuits
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Caramel Layer:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, room temperature, cut into pieces
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

For the Mascarpone Layer:

  • 1 cup heavy cream, chilled
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 16 oz mascarpone cheese, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Coffee Soak:

  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 2 tbsp coffee liqueur (optional)

For the Topping:

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Whipped cream
  • Fresh strawberries, for garnish


  1. Prepare the Base:
    • Mix the graham cracker crumbs or crushed digestive biscuits with the melted butter until well combined.
    • Press the mixture into the bottom of a 9×9 inch baking dish to form an even layer. Refrigerate while you prepare the other layers.
  2. Prepare the Caramel:
    • In a medium saucepan, heat the granulated sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until it melts and turns a golden amber color.
    • Carefully add the butter and stir until melted and combined.
    • Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring continuously (be careful as the mixture will bubble up).
    • Stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Let the caramel cool slightly, then pour it over the chilled graham cracker base. Refrigerate until set.
  3. Prepare the Mascarpone Layer:
    • In a large mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream with the powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
    • In another bowl, mix the mascarpone cheese with the vanilla extract until smooth.
    • Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined.
    • Spread the mascarpone mixture evenly over the caramel layer. Refrigerate while preparing the coffee soak.
  4. Prepare the Coffee Soak:
    • Mix the cooled brewed coffee with the coffee liqueur (if using).
    • Lightly soak ladyfingers or sponge cake pieces in the coffee mixture and layer them over the mascarpone layer.
  5. Final Assembly:
    • Sift the unsweetened cocoa powder over the top of the dessert.
    • Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to let the flavors meld together.
  6. Serve:
    • Before serving, top with whipped cream and garnish with fresh strawberries.
