Creamy Cheese Sauce for Fries

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or any cheese of your choice)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Melt the Butter:
    • In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Make the Roux:
    • Once the butter is melted, add the flour to the saucepan. Stir continuously with a whisk until the mixture becomes smooth and bubbly, about 1-2 minutes. This is called a roux and will thicken the sauce.
  3. Add the Milk:
    • Gradually pour in the milk while whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming.
  4. Thicken the Sauce:
    • Cook the mixture, stirring frequently, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add the Cheese:
    • Reduce the heat to low. Add the shredded cheese to the saucepan, a handful at a time, stirring until melted and smooth.
  6. Season the Sauce:
    • Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to taste. Adjust the seasoning according to your preference.
  7. Serve:
    • Once the cheese sauce is smooth and creamy, remove it from the heat.
    • Pour the cheese sauce over hot fries or serve it on the side as a dipping sauce.

Enjoy your homemade creamy cheese sauce with fries! It’s a deliciously indulgent treat that’s perfect for snacking or as a side dish.
