Crispy Chicken Fried Steak Bites with Creamy Gravy

Ingredients:

For the Steak Bites:

  • 1 pound beef sirloin or cube steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Creamy Gravy:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Steak Bites:
    • Start by preparing the beef sirloin or cube steak. Trim any excess fat and cut it into bite-sized pieces. Pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
    • In a shallow dish, combine the all-purpose flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. This seasoned flour will be used to coat the steak bites.
    • Crack the eggs into another shallow dish and beat them well.
    • Place the breadcrumbs or crushed crackers in a third shallow dish. This will be the final coating for the steak bites.
    • Take each piece of steak and dredge it first in the seasoned flour, then dip it into the beaten eggs, and finally coat it evenly with the breadcrumbs or crushed crackers. Press gently to ensure the coating adheres well.
  2. Fry the Steak Bites:
    • In a large skillet or frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C). You want enough oil to fully submerge the steak bites.
    • Working in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan, carefully place the coated steak bites into the hot oil using tongs. Fry them for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
    • Once cooked, transfer the fried steak bites to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Repeat the frying process with the remaining batches of steak bites.
  3. Make the Creamy Gravy:
    • In the same skillet used to fry the steak bites, melt the butter over medium heat.
    • Once the butter is melted and bubbling, sprinkle in the all-purpose flour. Whisk continuously to combine and cook the flour until it forms a smooth paste and becomes golden brown, about 1-2 minutes.
    • Gradually pour in the beef broth while whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming. Continue whisking until the mixture is smooth.
    • Pour in the heavy cream, stirring continuously, and bring the gravy to a simmer. Allow it to cook for an additional 3-5 minutes, or until it has thickened to your desired consistency.
    • Season the gravy with salt and pepper to taste. Adjust the seasoning as needed.
  4. Serve:
    • Arrange the crispy steak bites on a serving platter.
    • Serve the creamy gravy on the side or drizzle it generously over the steak bites.
    • Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions for a pop of color and freshness, if desired.
    • Enjoy your crispy chicken fried steak bites with creamy gravy as a delicious appetizer, main course, or snack!

Tips:

  • For added flavor, you can season the breadcrumbs or crushed crackers with additional spices such as garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika.
  • Serve the steak bites with mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, or a side salad for a complete meal.
  • Leftover gravy can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stove before serving.

This crispy chicken fried steak bites with creamy gravy recipe is sure to be a hit with family and friends. Enjoy every crunchy and flavorful bite!
