Ingredients:

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage (your choice of mild or spicy)
  • 1 bag of frozen tater tots (about 32 oz)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Tater Tots:
    • Prepare the tater tots according to the package instructions, typically baked in the oven until crispy and golden brown.
  2. Prepare the Sausage Gravy:
    • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until it is no longer pink, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.
    • Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir until well coated. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
    • Gradually pour in the milk, stirring constantly. Add garlic powder and onion powder. Bring the mixture to a simmer and allow it to thicken, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Assemble the Dish:
    • Once the tater tots are crispy, place them in a serving bowl or dish.
    • Spoon the hot sausage gravy over the tater tots.
    • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the hot gravy so it melts.
  4. Garnish and Serve:
    • Garnish with chopped green onions.
