Garlic Parmesan Chicken Pasta Bake


  • 12 ounces (about 340g) penne pasta (or any short pasta shape)
  • 2 cups cooked chicken breast, shredded or cubed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half)
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)


  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
  2. Cook the Pasta: Cook the penne pasta according to the package instructions in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Chicken: If the chicken breast is not cooked, cook it until fully cooked through, then shred or cube it.
  4. Make the Sauce:
    • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
    • Stir in marinara sauce and heavy cream. Bring to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes.
    • Add half of the grated Parmesan cheese, dried oregano, and dried basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat.
  5. Assemble the Pasta Bake:
    • In the prepared baking dish, combine cooked pasta, cooked chicken, and sauce mixture. Toss until well coated.
    • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese and remaining grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.
  6. Bake:
    • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes.
    • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  7. Serve:
    • Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
    • Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
    • Serve hot and enjoy!
