3/4 cup raw white rice

2 cups whole milk, divided

1/3 cup white sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 beaten egg

2/3 cup cream

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Optional garnish: a cinnamon stick or ground cinnamon

Cook the rice according to the package instructions until tender. Be careful not to cook for too long.

Add 1 1/2 cups milk, sugar and salt to the cooked rice. Cook over medium heat until thick and creamy, about 15 to 20 minutes. In a separate bowl, combine the beaten egg with the remaining 1/2 cup milk. Gradually add this to the rice mixture, making sure to stir slowly so that the egg does not scramble.
