For the Sausage Gravy

1 lb breakfast sausage
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
3 cups whole milk
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Salt to taste

How to Make Biscuits and Gravy

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in cold butter, then gently stir in buttermilk.
  2. Pat the dough about 1 inch thick and cut into biscuits. Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden and flaky.
  3. Brown the breakfast sausage in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it into small crumbles.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the sausage and cook for 1 minute. Slowly stir in milk and simmer until the sausage gravy is smooth and creamy.
  5. Season with black pepper and salt. Split the warm biscuits and spoon the homemade sausage gravy generously over the top.

Serving & Storage

Serve hot with eggs, breakfast potatoes, or fresh fruit. Store leftovers separately in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat the gravy with a splash of milk.

Recipe Tip

Use very cold butter and buttermilk for lighter, flakier biscuits, and avoid overworking the dough.
