Biscuits and Gravy is a classic Southern breakfast made with warm, flaky biscuits covered in rich, creamy sausage gravy. It’s hearty, comforting, and perfect for a weekend breakfast or family brunch.
Ingredients
For the Biscuits
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
3/4 cup cold buttermilk

For the Sausage Gravy
1 lb breakfast sausage
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
3 cups whole milk
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Salt to taste
How to Make Biscuits and Gravy
- Preheat oven to 425°F. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in cold butter, then gently stir in buttermilk.
- Pat the dough about 1 inch thick and cut into biscuits. Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden and flaky.
- Brown the breakfast sausage in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it into small crumbles.
- Sprinkle flour over the sausage and cook for 1 minute. Slowly stir in milk and simmer until the sausage gravy is smooth and creamy.
- Season with black pepper and salt. Split the warm biscuits and spoon the homemade sausage gravy generously over the top.
Serving & Storage
Serve hot with eggs, breakfast potatoes, or fresh fruit. Store leftovers separately in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat the gravy with a splash of milk.
