Jalapeño Cheddar Focaccia Bread

Ingredients:

  • For the Dough:
    • 4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
    • 2 tsp salt
    • 1/4 cup olive oil
    • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • For the Topping:
    • 2-3 fresh jalapeños, sliced
    • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
    • 2 tbsp olive oil
    • Coarse sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, and salt.
    • Add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
    • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  2. Shape and Top the Dough:
    • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
    • Punch down the dough and transfer it to a greased baking sheet. Stretch and press the dough into a rectangle or circle, about 1/2 inch thick.
    • Use your fingers to dimple the surface of the dough.
    • Drizzle the dough with olive oil, and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
    • Evenly distribute the shredded cheddar cheese and sliced jalapeños over the dough.
  3. Bake the Focaccia:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
    • Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly on a wire rack.
  4. Serve:
    • Cut the focaccia into squares or slices and serve warm or at room temperature.

Enjoy your homemade jalapeño cheddar focaccia bread!
