Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast (SOS)

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 (8-ounce) jar dried beef, rinsed, dried, and sliced into bite-sized pieces
  • 4 slices of bread, toasted

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Roux:
    • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and stir continuously to form a roux. Cook for about 1-2 minutes, until the roux is golden and bubbly.
  2. Add the Milk:

  3. Season the Sauce:
    • Add the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.
  4. Add the Beef:
    • Add the sliced dried beef to the sauce and stir until well incorporated. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  5. Toast the Bread:
    • While the sauce is simmering, toast the bread slices to your desired level of crispiness.
  6. Serve:
    • Place the toasted bread slices on plates and ladle the creamed chipped beef over the toast. Serve immediately.
