Caramelized Onion Steak

Ingredients:

  • 2 ribeye or sirloin steaks, about 1-inch thick
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (such as chives or parsley)

Instructions:

  1. Caramelize the Onions:
    • Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
    • Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and caramelized, about 20-25 minutes.
    • Stir in the balsamic vinegar and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Steaks:
    • Season both sides of the steaks generously with salt and pepper.
    • In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of butter. Heat over medium-high heat until the butter is melted and foamy.
    • Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, until fragrant.
  3. Cook the Steaks:
    • Place the steaks in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or to your desired doneness.
    • Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature: 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare, 140°F (60°C) for medium, and 150°F (65°C) for well-done.
    • Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest for 5 minutes.
  4. Assemble the Dish:
    • Top the cooked steaks with the caramelized onions.
    • Garnish with fresh herbs, such as chopped chives or parsley.
  5. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Serve the steaks hot with your favorite side dishes.
